CARBOLICUM ACIDUM<\/span>
\n<\/span>Phenol-Carbolic Acid<\/b><\/p>\n

Carbolic Acid is a powerful irritant and an\u00e6sthetic. A languid, foul, painless, destructive remedy. Stupor, paralysis of sensation and motion, feeble pulse and depressed breathing, death due to paralysis of respiratory centers. Acts primarily on the central nervous system.\u00a0Increased olfactory sensibility<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Produces mental and bodily languor, disinclination to study, with headache like a band. Very marked\u00a0acuteness of smell<\/i><\/span>\u00a0is a strong guiding symptom. Stomach symptoms are also important. Pains are terrible; come and go suddenly. Physical exertion brings on abscess somewhere. Putrid discharges (Bapt<\/i><\/span>). Scarlet fever, with marked tendency to destruction of tissue internally, and fetid odor. Spasmodic coughs. Arthritis (See Dose).<\/p>\n

Head.–<\/b><\/span>Disinclined to mental work. Tight feeling, as if compressed by a rubber band (Gels; Mahonia<\/i><\/span>). Orbital neuralgia over right eye. Headache, better, by green tea; while smoking.<\/p>\n

Nose.–<\/b><\/span>Smell very acute<\/i><\/span>. Putrid discharge. Oz\u00e6na, with fetor and ulceration. Influenza and resulting debility.<\/p>\n

Throat.–<\/b><\/span>Ulcerated patches on inside of lips and cheeks.\u00a0Burning in mouth to<\/i><\/span>\u00a0stomach. Fauces red, and covered with exudation. Uvula whitened and shriveled.\u00a0Putrid discharge<\/i><\/span>. Almost impossible to swallow.\u00a0Diphtheria, fetid breath, regurgitation<\/i><\/span>\u00a0on swallowing liquids, but little pain (Bapt<\/i><\/span>). Face dusky red; white about mouth and nose. Rapid sinking of vital forces.<\/p>\n

Stomach.–<\/b><\/span>Appetite lost.\u00a0Desire for stimulants and tobacco<\/i><\/span>. Constant belching, nausea,\u00a0vomiting<\/i><\/span>, dark olive green. Heat rises up \u0153sophagus. Flatulent distention of stomach and abdomen. Painful flatulence often marked in one part of the bowel (Sulpho-Carbolate of Soda<\/i><\/span>).\u00a0Fermentative dyspepsia<\/i><\/span>\u00a0with bad taste and breath.<\/p>\n

Stool.–<\/b><\/span>Constipation, with\u00a0very offensive breath<\/i><\/span>. Bloody, like scrapings of intestines. Great tenesmus. Diarrh\u0153a; stools thin, black, putrid.<\/p>\n

Urine.–<\/b><\/span>Almost black. Diabetes. Irritable bladder in old men with frequent urination at night, of probable prostatic nature. Use 1x.<\/p>\n

Female.–<\/b><\/span>Discharges always offensive (Nitr ac; Nux; Sep<\/i><\/span>). Pustules about vulva containing bloody pus. Agonizing backache across loins, with dragging-down thighs. Pain in left ovary; worse walking in open air. Erosions of cervix; fetid, acrid discharge. Leucorrh\u0153a in children (Cann s; Merc; Puls; Sep<\/i><\/span>). Puerperal fever, with offensive discharge. Irritating leucorrh\u0153a, causing itching and burning (Kreos<\/i><\/span>).<\/p>\n

Extremities.–<\/b><\/span>Cramps in fore part of leg, close to tibia\u00a0during walking<\/i><\/span>. Gnawing pains in shin bones. Arthritis.<\/p>\n

Skin.–<\/b><\/span>Itching vesicles, with burning pain. Burns tend to ulcerate.<\/p>\n

Relationship.–<\/b><\/span>Compare:\u00a0Chrysarobin<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(local\u00a0in ringworm<\/i><\/span>\u00a0of the scalp 5-10 per cent in glycerine and alcohol. Equal parts). Ars;\u00a0Kreosot; Carbo; Guano<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Violent headache as from a band around head. Itching of nostrils, back, thighs, genitals. Symptoms like hay-fever).<\/p>\n

Antidote:\u00a0Alcohol; Vinegar; Chalk; Iod<\/i><\/span>. Glauber’s Salt in watery solution.<\/p>\n

Incompatible:\u00a0Glycerine<\/i><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0vegetable oils<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Dose.–<\/b><\/span>Third to thirtieth potency. Phenol in Arthritis, according to Goodno. Must be absolutely pure. Crystals Solution (25 %) in equal parts of water and glycerine, dose 20 minims well diluted 3 times daily (Bartlett).<\/p>\n
