NATRIUM MURIATICUM<\/span>

\n(NATRUM MURIATICUM)<\/b><\/p>\n

The prolonged taking of excessive salt causes profound nutritive changes to take place in the system, and there arise not only the symptoms of salt retention as evidenced by dropsies and \u015bdemas, but also an alteration in the blood causing a condition of an\u0107mia and leucocytosis. There seems also to be a retention in the tissues of effecte materials giving rise to symptoms loosely described as gouty or rheumatic gout. The provings are full of such symptoms (Dr. Stonham) A great remedy for certain forms of intermittent fever, an\u0107mia, chlorosis, many disturbances of the alimentary tract and skin. Great debility; most weakness felt in the morning in bed.\u00a0Coldness<\/i><\/span>. Emaciation most notable in neck. Great liability to take cold.\u00a0Dry mucous membranes<\/i><\/span>. Constrictive sensation throughout the body.\u00a0Great weakness and weariness<\/i><\/span>. Oversensitive to all sorts of influences. Hyperthyroidism. Goitre. Addison’s disease. Diabetes.<\/p>\n

Mind.–<\/b><\/span>Psychic causes of disease; ill effects of grief, fright, anger, etc. Depressed, particularly in chronic diseases.\u00a0Consolation aggravates<\/i><\/span>. Irritable; gets into a passion about trifles. Awkward, hasty. Wants to be alone to cry. Tears with laughter.<\/p>\n

Head.–<\/b><\/span>Throbs.\u00a0Blinding<\/i><\/span>\u00a0headache. Aches as if a thousand little hammers were knocking on the brain, in the morning on awakening,\u00a0after menstruation<\/i><\/span>, from\u00a0sunrise<\/i><\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0sunset<\/i><\/span>. Feels too large; cold. An\u0107mic headache of school-girls; nervous, discouraged, broken down. Chronic headache, semi-lateral, congestive, from sunrise to sunset, with pale face, nausea, vomiting; periodical; from eyestrain; menstrual. Before attack, numbness and tingling in lips, tongue and nose, relieved by sleep. Frontal sinus inflammation.<\/p>\n

Eyes.–<\/b><\/span>Feels bruised, with\u00a0headache in school children<\/i><\/span>. Eyelids heavy.\u00a0Muscles weak and stiff<\/i><\/span>. Letters run together. Sees sparks. Fiery, zigzag appearance around all objects. Burning in eyes. Give out on reading or writing. Stricture of lachrymal duct with suppuration. Escape of muco-pus when pressing upon sac. Lachrymation, burning and acrid. Lids swollen. Eyes appear wet with tears.\u00a0Tears stream down face on coughing<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Euph<\/i><\/span>).\u00a0Asthenopia<\/i><\/span>\u00a0due to insufficiency of\u00a0internal recti muscles<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Gels<\/i><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Cup acet<\/i><\/span>, when due to\u00a0external<\/i><\/span>\u00a0muscles).\u00a0Pain in eyes when looking down<\/i><\/span>. Cataract\u00a0incipient<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Secale<\/i><\/span>).<\/p>\n

Ears.–<\/b><\/span>Noises; roaring and ringing.<\/p>\n

Nose.–<\/b><\/span>Violent, fluent coryza<\/i><\/span>, lasting from one to three days, then changing into stoppage of nose, making breathing difficult. Discharge thin and watery,\u00a0like raw white of egg<\/i><\/span>. Violent sneezing coryza.\u00a0Infallible for stopping a cold commencing with sneezing<\/i><\/span>. Use thirtieth potency.\u00a0Loss of smell and taste<\/i><\/span>. Internal soreness of nose. Dryness.<\/p>\n

Face.–<\/b><\/span>Oily, shiny, as if greased. Earthy complexion.\u00a0Fevers-blisters<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Mouth.–<\/b><\/span>Frothy coating on tongue, with bubbles on side. Sense of dryness. Scorbutic gums.\u00a0Numbness, tingling of tongue<\/i><\/span>, lips, and nose. Vesicles and burning on tongue, as if there was a hair on it. Eruptions around mouth and\u00a0vesicles like pearls on lips<\/i><\/span>. Lips and corners of mouth dry, ulcerated, and cracked. Deep crack in middle of lower lip.\u00a0Tongue mapped<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Ars; Rhus; Tarax<\/i><\/span>). Loss of taste. Large vesicle on lower lip, which is swollen and burns. Immoderate thirst.<\/p>\n

Stomach.–<\/b><\/span>Hungry, yet loose flesh (Iod<\/i><\/span>). Heartburn, with palpitation. Unquenchable thirst.\u00a0Sweats while eating<\/i><\/span>. Craving for salt. Aversion to bread, to anything slimy, like oysters, fats. Throbbing in pit. Sticking sensation in cardiac orifice.<\/p>\n

Abdomen.–<\/b><\/span>Cutting pain in abdomen. Distended. Pain in abdominal ring on coughing.<\/p>\n

Rectum.–<\/b><\/span>Burning pains and stitching after stool. Anus contracted,\u00a0torn, bleeding<\/i><\/span>. Constipation; stool dry, crumbling (Am m; Mag m<\/i><\/span>). Painless and copious diarrh\u015ba, preceded by pinching pain in abdomen.<\/p>\n

Urine.–<\/b><\/span>Pain just\u00a0after<\/i><\/span>\u00a0urinating (Sars<\/i><\/span>). Increased, involuntary when walking, coughing, etc. Has to wait a long time for it to pass\u00a0if others are present<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Hep; Mur ac<\/i><\/span>).<\/p>\n

Male.–<\/b><\/span>Emission, even after coitus. Impotence with retarded emission.<\/p>\n

Female.–<\/b><\/span>Menses irregular; usually profuse. Vagina dry. Leucorrh\u015ba acrid, watery. Bearing-down pains; worse in morning (Sep<\/i><\/span>). Prolapsus uteri, with cutting in urethra. Ineffectual labor-pains. Suppressed menses (Follow with\u00a0Kali carb<\/i><\/span>). Hot during menses.<\/p>\n

Respiratory.–<\/b><\/span>Cough from a tickling in the pit of stomach, accompanied by stitches in liver and spurting of urine (Caust; Squilla<\/i><\/span>). Stitches all over chest. Cough, with bursting pain in head. Shortness of breath, especially on going upstairs (Calc<\/i><\/span>). Whooping-cough with\u00a0flow of tears with cough<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Heart.–<\/b><\/span>Tachycardia. Sensation of coldness of heart. Heart and chest feel constricted. Fluttering, palpitating; intermittent pulse. Heart’s pulsations shake body.\u00a0Intermits on lying down<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Extremities.–<\/b><\/span>Pain in back,\u00a0with desire for some firm support<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Rhus; Sep<\/i><\/span>). Every movement accelerates the circulation.\u00a0Palms hot and perspiring<\/i><\/span>. Arms and legs, but especially knees, feel weak.\u00a0Hangnails<\/i><\/span>. Dryness and cracking about finger-nails.\u00a0Numbness and tingling<\/i><\/span>\u00a0in fingers and lower extremities. Ankles weak and turn easily. Painful contraction of hamstrings (Caust<\/i><\/span>). Cracking in joints on motion.\u00a0Coldness of legs<\/i><\/span>\u00a0with congestion to head, chest, and stomach.<\/p>\n

Sleep.–<\/b><\/span>Sleepy in forenoon. Nervous jerking during sleep. Dreams of robbers. Sleepless from grief.<\/p>\n

Skin.–<\/b><\/span>Greasy, oily, especially on hairy parts. Dry eruptions, especially on margin of hairy scalp and bends of joints. Fever blisters. Urticaria; itch and burn. Crusty eruptions in\u00a0bends of limbs, margin of scalp<\/i><\/span>, behind ears (Caust<\/i><\/span>). Warts on palms of hands. Eczema; raw, red, and inflamed; worse, eating salt, at seashore. Affects hair follicles. Alopecia. Hives, itching after exertion.\u00a0Greasy<\/i><\/span>\u00a0skin.<\/p>\n

Fever.–<\/b><\/span>Chill between 9 and 11 am. Heat; violent thirst, increases with fever. Fever-blisters.\u00a0Coldness of the body<\/i><\/span>, and\u00a0continued chilliness<\/i><\/span>\u00a0very marked. Hydr\u0107mia in chronic malarial states with weakness, constipation, loss of appetite, etc. Sweats on every exertion.<\/p>\n

Modalities.–<\/b><\/span>Worse<\/i><\/span>, noise, music, warm room, lying down about 10 a m;, at seashore, mental exertion, consolation,\u00a0heat<\/i><\/span>, talking.\u00a0Better<\/i><\/span>, open air, cold bathing, going without regular meals, lying on right side; pressure against back, tight clothing.<\/p>\n

Relationship.–<\/b><\/span>Complementary to\u00a0Apis; Sepia; Ign<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Compare:\u00a0Aqua marina<\/i><\/span>-Isotonic plasma. Marine plasma is a sea water taken some miles from shore and some depth below surface, filtered and diluted with twice as much pure fresh water. It acts primarily on the blood, as in intoxications, scrofulous conditions, enteritis.
