PYROGENIUM<\/span>
\n<\/span>Artificial Sepsin<\/b><\/p>\n

This remedy was introduced by English Homeopathists, prepared from decomposed lean beef allowed to stand in the sun for two weeks and then potentized. The provings and most of the clinical experience have been obtained from this preparation. But, subsequently, Dr. Swan potentized some septic pus, which preparation has also been proved and clinically applied. There does not seem to be any marked difference in their effects.<\/p>\n

Pyrogen is the great remedy for\u00a0septic states<\/i><\/span>, with intense restlessness. “In septic fevers, especially puerperal, Pyrogen has demonstrated its great value as a homeopathic dynamic antiseptic. ” (H. C. Allen). Hectic, typhoid, typhus, ptomaine poisoning, diphtheria, dissecting wounds, sewer-gas poisoning, chronic malaria, after-effects of miscarriage, all these conditions at times may present symptoms calling for this unique medicine.\u00a0All discharges are horribly offensive<\/i><\/span>-menstrual, lochial, diarrh\u015ba, vomit, sweat, breath, etc. Great pain and violent burning in abscesses. Chronic complaints that date back to septic conditions. Threatening heart failure in zymotic and septic fevers. Influenza, typhoid symptoms.<\/p>\n

Mind.–<\/b><\/span>Full of anxiety and insane notions. Loquacious. Thinks he is very wealthy.\u00a0Restless<\/i><\/span>. Feels if crowded with arms and legs. Cannot tell whether dreaming while awake or asleep.<\/p>\n

Head.–<\/b><\/span>Painless throbbing. Fan-like motion of al\u0107 nasi (Lyc; Phos<\/i><\/span>). Bursting headache with restlessness.<\/p>\n

Mouth.–<\/b><\/span>Tongue red and\u00a0dry<\/i><\/span>, clean, cracked, smooth, as though varnished. Throat dry, articulation difficult. Nausea and vomiting. Taste terribly fetid. Breath horrible.<\/p>\n

Stomach.–<\/b><\/span>Coffee-grounds vomiting. Vomits water, when it becomes warm in stomach.<\/p>\n

Abdomen.–<\/b><\/span>Intolerable tenesmus o both bladder and rectum. Bloated, sore, cutting pain.<\/p>\n

Stool.–<\/b><\/span>Diarrh\u015ba; horribly offensive, brown-black, painless, involuntary. Constipation, with complete inertia (Opium<\/i><\/span>); obstinate from impaction. Stools large, black, carrion-like, or small black balls.<\/p>\n

Heart.–<\/b><\/span>Tired feeling about heart.\u00a0Palpitation<\/i><\/span>. Sensation as if heart were too full. Always can hear her heart beat. Pulse abnormally rapid,\u00a0out of proportion to the temperature<\/i><\/span>\u00a0pain in region of left nipple. Conscious of heart.<\/p>\n

Female.–<\/b><\/span>Puerperal peritonitis, with extreme fetor. Septic\u0107mia following abortion. Menses horribly offensive. Uterine h\u0107morrhages. Fever at each menstrual period, consequent upon latent pelvic inflammation.\u00a0Septic puerperal infection<\/i><\/span>. Pelvic calculitis. Inflammatory exudate. Post-operative cases, with overwhelming sepsis.<\/p>\n

Fever.–<\/b><\/span>Coldness and chilliness.\u00a0Septic fevers<\/i><\/span>. Latent pyogenic condition. Chill begins in back. Temperature rises rapidly. Great heat with profuse hot sweat, but\u00a0sweating does not cause a fall in temperature<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Extremities.–<\/b><\/span>Throbbing in vessels of neck. Numbness of hands, arms, feet. Aching in all limbs and bones.\u00a0Bed feels too hard<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Arn<\/i><\/span>). Great debility in the morning. Soreness; better by motion (Rhus<\/i><\/span>). Rapid decubitus of septic origin.<\/p>\n

Skin.–<\/b><\/span>Small cut or injury becomes much swollen and inflamed-discolored. Dry.<\/p>\n

Sleep.–<\/b><\/span>Seems to be in semi-sleep. Dreams all night.<\/p>\n

Modalities.–<\/b><\/span>Relief from motion.<\/p>\n

Relationship.–<\/b><\/span>Compare:\u00a0Streptoccin<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(anti-febrile action; septic symptoms in infectious diseases). Rapid in its action, especially in its effect on temperature;\u00a0Staphyloccin<\/i><\/span>\u00a0in diseases where the staphylococcus is the chief bacterial factor, as acne, abscess, furuncle; empy\u0107ma, endocarditis, etc. ;\u00a0Sepin<\/i><\/span>-A toxin of Proteus vulgaris, prepared by Dr. Shedd, same symptoms as Pyrogen, of which it is the main constituent;\u00a0Echinacea; Carbo; Ars; Lach; Rhus; Bapt<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Dose.–<\/b><\/span>Sixth to thirtieth and higher potencies. Should not be repeated too frequently.<\/p>\n
