VERATRUM VIRIDE<\/span>
\n<\/span>White American Hellebore<\/b><\/p>\n

Paroxysms of auricular fibrillation. Induces fall of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Congestions, especially to lungs, base of brain, with nausea and vomiting. Twitchings and convulsions. Especially adapted to full-blooded, plethoric persons. Great prostration. Rheumatism of heart.\u00a0Bloated, livid face<\/i><\/span>. Furious delirium. Effects of sunstroke.\u00a0\u015asophagitis.<\/i><\/span>\u00a0(Farrington).\u00a0Verat vir<\/i><\/span>, will raise the opsonic index against the\u00a0diploccus pneumonia<\/i><\/span>, 70 to 109 per cent. Congestive stage and early manifestations of hepatization in pneumonia. Zigzag temperature. Clinically, it is known that such diseases as Tiegel’s contracture, Thompson’s Disease, athetosis and pseudo-hypertrophic muscular paralysis present a symptomatology quite like that produced by Veratrum vir upon muscular tissue (A. E. Hinsdale, M. D).<\/p>\n

Mind.–<\/b><\/span>Quarrelsome and delirious.<\/p>\n

Head.–<\/b><\/span>Congestion intense, almost apoplectic. Hot head, bloodshot eyes. Bloated, livid face. Hippocratic face. Head retracted,\u00a0pupils dilated<\/i><\/span>, double vision. Meningitis.\u00a0Pain from nape of neck<\/i><\/span>; cannot hold head up. Sunstroke; head full, throbbing arteries (Bell; Glon; Usnea<\/i><\/span>).\u00a0Face flushed<\/i><\/span>. Convulsive twitching of facial muscles (Agaricus<\/i><\/span>). Vertigo with nausea.<\/p>\n

Tongue.–<\/b><\/span>White or yellow,\u00a0with red streak down the middle<\/i><\/span>. Feels scalded. Increased saliva.<\/p>\n

Stomach.–<\/b><\/span>Thirsty. Nausea and vomiting. Smallest quantity of food or drink immediately rejected. Constrictive pain; increased by warm drinks.\u00a0Hiccough<\/i><\/span>; excessive and painful, with\u00a0spasms of \u015bsophagus<\/i><\/span>. Burning in stomach and \u015bsophagus.<\/p>\n

Abdomen.–<\/b><\/span>Pain above pelvis, with soreness.<\/p>\n

Respiratory.–<\/b><\/span>Congestion of lungs. Difficult breathing. Sensation of a heavy load on chest. Pneumonia, with faint feeling in stomach and violent congestion.\u00a0Croup<\/i><\/span>. Menstrual colic before the appearance of the discharge with strangury.<\/p>\n

Urine.–<\/b><\/span>Scanty with cloudy sediment.<\/p>\n

Female.–<\/b><\/span>Rigid os (Bell; Gels<\/i><\/span>). Puerperal fever. Suppressed menstruation, with congestion to head (Bell<\/i><\/span>). Menstrual colic before the appearance of the discharge with strangury.<\/p>\n

Heart.–<\/b><\/span>Pulse\u00a0slow, soft, weak<\/i><\/span>, irregular, intermittent. Rapid pulse, low tension (Tabac; Dig<\/i><\/span>). Constant, dull, burning pain in region of heart. Valvular diseases.\u00a0Beating of pulses throughout body<\/i><\/span>, especially in right thigh.<\/p>\n

Extremities.–<\/b><\/span>Aching pain in back of neck and shoulders. Severe pain in joints and muscles. Violent electric-like shocks in limbs. Convulsive twitchings.\u00a0Acute rheumatism. Fever<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Skin.–<\/b><\/span>Erysipelas, with cerebral symptoms. Erythema. Itching in various parts.\u00a0Hot sweating<\/i><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Fever.–<\/b><\/span>Hyperthermy in the evening and hypothermy in the morning. Suppurative fevers with great variation of temperature.<\/p>\n

Relationship.–<\/b><\/span>Compare:\u00a0Gels; Bapt; Bell; Acon; Ferr phos<\/i><\/span>. Antidotes Strychnin-fluid extract, 20-40 drops.<\/p>\n

Dose.–<\/b><\/span>First to sixth potency.<\/p>\n
