Melancholy, dejected, sad, weeping, aggravated by consolations from others, with palpitation of the heart.

Apprehension for the future.

[5] Great tendency to start.

Hurriedness.

Passionate vehemence ; gets angry at trifles.

Difficulty of thinking ; absence of mind, weak memory.

 

Head.

Vertigo, when rising in bed in the morning, or when rising from bed and walking.

[10] Emptiness of the head, with anguish.

Weariness in the head.

Vertigo, periodically appearing with nausea, eructations, colic and trembling of the limbs.

Pressing headache, from both sides, as if the head were in a vice, in the morning ; better when lying down.

Beating and pulsation in the head, mostly in the forehead, with nausea and vomiting ; worse in the morning and when moving, better when lying with the head high ; relieved by perspiration.

[15] Rheumatic (tearing) pain in the head, from the root of the nose extending to the forehead, with nausea, vomiting, vanishing of sight ; worse in the morning when waking from sleep, from mental exertion and motion ; better when sitting still or when lying down.

Heaviness in the back part of the head ; it draws the eyes together ; worse in the morning ; from warmth and motion ; better when sitting, lying, or perspiring.

Violent headache, as if the head would burst.

Sensation of congestion of blood to the head ; the head feels heavy.

Stitches through the head, extending to the neck and chest.

[20] Heat in the head, with redness of the face, nausea and vomiting.

Periodical headaches during, after or before the menses.

Falling off of the hair as soon as it is touched, more on the forepart of the head, the temple, the whiskers, and on the genitals, especially during child-bed ; with great sensitiveness of the scalp ; with greasy, shining face, frequent headaches in the morning and from cold air.

Liability to take cold in the head.

Great sensitiveness of the scalp to the touch, especially on the temple, forehead and the borders of the hair ; worse in the warm room, better in the open air.

[25] Sensation as if the scalp were constricted ; worse from talking and in the open air, better when sitting or lying.

The headache ceases on one side of the head ; it continues more violent on the other side.

Burning on the vertex.

 

Eyes.

Itching in the eyes.

Stinging-smarting and burning of the eyes.

[30] Spasmodic contraction of the eyelids (evening).

Red, ulcerating eyelids.

Inflammation of the eyes, with ulcerated eyelids and glutinous mucus in the (external) canthi.

Acrid tears in the eyes (morning).

Obscuration of sight when stooping and walking, when reading and writing.

[35] The letters run one into another when reading.

Double vision.

One half of the object is visible, the other half is dark.

Black points or streaks of light before the eyes.

Fiery, zigzag appearance around all things.

 

Ears.

[40] Stitches in the ears.

Pulsation and beating in the ear.

Swelling, burning and heat of the ears.

Hardness of hearing.

Discharge of pus from the ears.

Nose.

One-sided (left side) inflammation and swelling, and swelling of the nose with painfulness to the touch.

Face.

Face shining, as from grease.

Redness of one (the left) cheek (afternoon, night).

Heat in the face.

Swollen face.

Itching and eruptions on the face crusta lactea).

[60] Pain in the cheek-bones, as if bruised when masticating.

Lips dry, cracked, with rhagades, or sore and ulcerated, with burning-smarting eruptions and scabs, easily bleeding.

Fever-blisters on the lips.

Herpetic eruption around the mouth.

Swelling of the upper lip.

[65] Ulcer on the (left) cheek.

Blood-blisters on the inside of the upper lip.

Eruptions and ulcers on the chin.

Tingling and numbness of the lips.

Mouth and Throat.

[70] Teeth very sensitive to the air and contact.

Pain (drawing, tearing) in the teeth, extending to the ears and throat, after eating and at night, with swelling of the cheek.

Decayed teeth feel lose, burn, sting and pulsate.

Fistula dentalis.

Gums very sensitive to warm and cold things, swollen, inflamed, putrid, easily bleeding.

[75] In the mouth and on the tongue blisters and ulcers, with smarting-burning pain when touched by the food.

Haemoptysis.

Heaviness of the tongue with difficulty of speech.

Numbness and stiffness of one side of the tongue.

Sensation as of a hair on the tongue.

[80] Dryness of the mouth, lips, and especially of the tongue.

Ptyalism.

Burning at the tip of the tongue.

Swelling ; sensation of constriction and stitches in the throat.

Long-continued sore throat, with the sensation as if she had to swallow over a lump.

[85] Hawking up of mucus in the morning.

 

Stomach and Abdomen.

Loss of taste (and smell).

The water tastes putrid.

Putrid or sour taste while fasting.

Bitter taste in the mouth.

[90] Continuous thirst (with nausea).

Excessive appetite.

Longing for bitter food and drink.

During meals perspiration in the face.

After eating, empty eructations nausea, acidity in the mouth, sleepiness, heartburn, palpitation of the heart.

[95] Soreness, as if bruised in the pit of the stomach, when pressing on it, with swelling.

In the region of the liver, stitches and tension (chronic inflammation of the liver).

In the region of the spleen, stitches and pressure.

Swelling of the abdomen.

Colic with nausea, relieved by discharge of flatulence.

[100] Red spots on the pit of the stomach.

Burning in the intestines.

Nausea in the morning vomiting, first of food, later of bile.

Rumbling in the abdomen.

 

Stool and Anus.

Constipation ; stools difficult to discharge, hard, dry, crumbling, like sheep’s dung.

[105] Evacuations difficult, with stitches in the rectum.

Diarrhoea like water, with colic.

Involuntary stools.

Passes blood with the stool.

Alternate constipation and papescent stools.

[110] During and after stool, burning in the anus and rectum.

Smarting and pulsations in the rectum.

Haemorrhoidal tumors with stinging pain.

Soreness at the anus and around it when walking.

Tetter at the anus.

 

Urinary Organs.

[115] Frequent and strong desire to urinate (day and night), with profuse discharge.

Involuntary micturition, when coughing, walking and laughing.

Pale urine with brick-dust sediment.

Discharge of mucus from the urethra.

During micturition stitches in the bladder, smarting, burning in the urethra ; smarting and soreness in the vulva.

[120] After micturition spasmodic contraction in the abdomen ; burning, drawing and cutting in the urethra, and a discharge of thin, glutinous substance.

Urine dark, like coffee, or black.

 

Sexual Organs.

Men. Excessive irritability of the sexual instinct or importance.

After an embrace, seminal emissions.

Itching soreness and herpes between the scrotum and the thighs.

[125] Itching and stinging on the glans penis and on the scrotum.

Women. Pressing and bearing down in the genitals.

Menstruation too early and too profuse, or too late and too scanty.

Suppressed menstruation : difficulty in the appearance of the first menses.

During the menstruation, melancholy, colic.

[130] Before, during and after the menstruation, headache.

Itching on the genitals.

Aversion to an embrace.

Sterility, with too early and too profuse menstruation.

Fluor albus, acrid, greenish ; increased discharge when walking ; with yellow complexion.

 

Respiratory Organs.

[135] Hoarseness, with dryness in the larynx.

Accumulation of mucus in the larynx (in the morning).

Dry cough, from tickling in the throat or in the pit of the stomach, day and night, especially when walking and drawing a long breath.

Morning cough.

Hooping-cough, caused by tickling in the throat or pit of the stomach, with expectoration (only in the morning) of yellow or blood-streaked mucus, with violent pain in the head, as if the forehead would burst, or with shocks ; beating and hammering in the head ; involuntary micturition ; stitches in the liver.

[140] The cough is worse in the evening after lying down.

Dry cough with rattling in the chest.

Cough, with expectoration of bloody mucus.

[145] Shortness of breathing on walking fast ; relieved when exercising the arms and in the open air.

Sensation and pain in the chest, as from tension.

Stitches in the chest and sides, with shortness of breathing, especially when taking a long inspiration.

Violent palpitation of the heart from every exertion, and especially when lying on the left side.

Fluttering motion of the heart.

Irregular, intermitting beats of the heart.

 

Back and Neck.

In the small of the back pain, as if bruised, as if lame ; stitches, cutting, pulsation.

[150] Tension and drawing in the back.

Over-sensitiveness of the spine.

Stitches in the neck and back part of the head.

Painful stiffness of the neck.

Scabs in the axilla ; painful soreness of the cervical glands when coughing.

[155] The pain in the back is relieved by lying on something hard.

 

Extremities.

Upper. Sensation of lameness and of a sprain in the shoulder-joint.

Cramp in the arms, hands, finger and thumb.

Weakness and paralytic heaviness of the arms.

Stitches in the muscles and joints of the hands and fingers.

[160] Involuntary movement of the hands.

Tingling in the hands (and feet), especially on the joints and tips of the fingers (and toes).

Brown spots on the hands.

The finger-joints move with difficulty.

Dry, cracked skin of the hands, especially around the nails.

[165] Warts in the palms of the hands.

Perspiration of the hands.

Trembling of the hands when writing.

Swelling of the right hand.

Hang-nails.

[170] Pain in the hip, as if sprained, with stitches.

Restlessness in the legs, compelling one to move them constantly.

Sensation as if the legs were paralyzed, especially the ankles.

Twitching of the muscles of the thighs.

Tension in the bends of the limbs, and sensation as if the tendons were shortened ; painful contraction of the hamstrings.

[175] Pain as if the knees and ankles were sprained.

Weakness in the knees and calves.

Cramps in the lower legs and calves.

Great heaviness of the legs and feet.

Burning of the feet.

[180] Swelling of the feet.

Cold feet.

Sensation in the tarsal joint as if bruised when walking and when touching it.

Suppressed perspiration of the feet.

Redness of the big toe, with tearing and stinging on walking or standing.

[185] Sensation as if the limb bad gone to sleep (feet, fingers).

Corns, with boring, stinging pains.

 

Generalities.

Great weakness and relaxation of all bodily and physical powers from the least exertion.

Disinclination to move and walk after rising, with great heaviness and indolence in the morning.

The limbs feel weak and as if they were bruised, especially in the morning after rising.

[190] Hysterical debility ; the debility is greatest in the morning in bed.

Great emaciation.

Stiffness of the joints ; they crack on moving them.

Shortening, contraction of the muscles.

Twitching in the muscles and limbs.

[195] Pulsations in the whole body from the least exertion.

Restlessness in the limbs ; they have to be moved constantly.

Paralysis.

 

Sleep.

Sleepiness during the day with sleeplessness at night ; is unable to go to sleep.

In the morning he feels unrefreshed.

[200] Sleep with vivid, frightful dreams ; dreams of burning thirst ; starts and talks in the sleep and tosses about.

Wakens with fright, violent headache and perspiration ; with erethism of the blood ; violent throbbing in the arteries.

 

Fever.

Pulse very irregular, frequently intermitting, especially when lying on the left side.

Pulse at one time rapid and weak, at another full and slow.

The pulsations shake the whole body.

[205] Chill predominates ; chilliness internally, as from as want of natural heat, with icy coldness of the hands and feet (evening).

Continuous chilliness from morning till noon.

Flushes of heat with violent headache, chilliness over the back and perspiration in the axilla and soles of the feet.

Continuous heat in the afternoon, with violent headache and unconsciousness ; they are gradually relieved during the perspiration which follows.

During the heat generally violent thirst.

[210] Violent perspiration, relieving the painful symptoms present during the fever.

Much perspiration during the day, and inclination to perspire from the least exertion.

Debilitating, somewhat sour-smelling perspiration.

Night and morning sweat.

Intermittent fever. Chilliness with great thirst ; afterwards great heat with violent thirst and excessive headache ; at last profuse perspiration.

[215] Chilliness, with increasing headache in the forehead every day at 9 A.M. until noon ; afterwards heat with gradually appearing perspiration and thirst, the headache decreasing afterwards gradually.

In the forenoon chilliness for three hours, with blue nails and chattering of teeth ; this is followed by heat, lasting as long, accompanied by obscuration of sight, stitches in the head, much thirst, pains in the back, followed by perspiration.

Chilliness at 10 A.M., commencing at the feet, followed by heat with headache and, later, perspiration.

Anticipating chilliness in the morning, with external coldness, great thirst, violent headache, stupefaction ; afterwards slight heat, with some perspiration, faintishness, and weakness of the eyes.

Intermittent fevers after the abuse of Chininum sulph., or with yellow complexion, great debility, drawing pain in the limbs, headache (worse during the hot stage), pressure in the stomach, loss of appetite, excessive thirst, fever-blisters on the lips.

 

Skin.

[220] Nettle-rash after violent exercise (itching).

Itching and pricking in the skin.

Large red blotches, itching violently.

Rash over the whole body, with stinging sensation in the skin.

Pain and redness of an old cicatrix.

[225] Varices.

Blood-boils.

Herpes (in the bend of the knee).

Warts in the palms of the hands.

 

Conditions.

Bad effects from anger (mortification caused by offence).

[230] Bad effects from acid food and bread.

The nightly pains cause dyspnoea and a one-sided paralysis.

Most of the complaints appear or are renewed while lying down, especially at night, or in the morning, and are relieved when sitting up.

Aggravation at 10 A.M. ; every exertion increases the circulation ; on looking fixedly at an object ; from talking (the weakness), when writing or reading.

Amelioration while fasting, while lying on the back or on the right side, after lying down.

[235] Natrum mur. is an antidote to Argentum nitricum (especially if it has been applied locally), and to Chininum sulph.

It follows well and is well preceded by Apis mel. ; to which it also stands in an antidotal relation.
